Simon Lee

Simon graduated from Newcastle Dental School in 2009 and remained in the North East working across multiple mixed NHS/Private dentistry in practices. In 2014 Simon passed examinations to become a member of the joint dental faculties at the Royal college of Surgeons London. He is also a member of British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Association of Dental Implantology.

Developing a real passion for cosmetic dentistry Simon decided to take a postgraduate course in Aesthetic and Restorative dentistry in London run by the renowned Dr Christopher Orr. In 2019 he completed the Cambridge Implantology Course and works closely with Jim Sykes, Mark Hanlon to provide implants for our patients at Hexham Dental Clinic.

Simon takes a lot of enjoyment in being able to create a very relaxed and comfortable environment for his patients, listening to their needs then employing advance techniques to deliver the highest possible care he can for his patients. His interests lie in delivering minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry, dental implants and he is a skilled Invisalign provider.

Outside work Simon is a devoted husband and dad and tries to spend as much time with his two children as he can. When he gets time away from being a dad he enjoys cycling and taking in scenery of Northumberland, relaxing in front of a piano and likes to travel and explore new countries.

Mark Hanlon

Mark graduated from Leeds Dental School in 1992, and was awarded the prize for ‘Most Distinguished Student in Final Year.’ Following three years of hospital training, Mark then spent some time working in dental practices in London and Buckinghamshire before returning to his Geordie roots in the North East.

Mark developed a special interest in dental sedation and dental implants and in 1999 achieved the Diploma in Conscious Sedation and Pain control in dentistry, and became a sedation trainer for the Northern region.

Mark was accepted as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, MFGDP(UK)RCS, in 2006, and completed the Diploma in implant dentistry from Warwick University in 2011. Mark has also attended numerous courses on dental Implants and Cosmetic dentistry and is also an Invisalign provider for straightening teeth.

Outside of work, Mark is a family man, and spends as much time as he can with his wife, two daughters and their dog Lola.

As a teenager Mark was a national standard swimmer, and more recently has completed 2 full-distance Ironman triathlon events in Germany and Austria.

Jim Sykes

Jim co-founded Hexham Dental Clinic with Mark in 2007. Since then Jim and Mark have worked closely together to develop an excellent team of dentists, hygienists and support staff without which Hexham Dental Clinic would not be what it is today.

Jim graduated from Newcastle University in 1997. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry but is particularly committed to helping patients achieve a smile they’re proud of.

Jim is excited that Hexham Dental Clinic now offers cutting edge technologies such as dental implants, Invisalign, tooth whitening, digital scanning, white crowns, veneers and white fillings. Jim is a firm believer that every patient should be able to smile with confidence, and is keen to understand each patients individual needs to optimise the end result.

Cosmetic dentistry is close to Jim’s heart, having broken his front tooth at the tender age of 7, giving him first-hand knowledge of how important a confident smile can be to how we feel as individuals.

For the first 10 years of Jim’s career, he was mainly providing dental treatment under sedation for anxious children and adults. Jim still enjoys providing treatment for anxious adults under intravenous sedation and believes that anything that makes a patient’s experience better should be embraced.

Outside of work Jim enjoys a busy family life with his 3 daughters and wife. He is a keen cyclist enjoying both road biking as well as off-road mountain biking. He is passionate about music and runs a small recording studio, mixing and mastering tracks with a string of commercial releases on chillout and house music labels since 2004.

Meghan Bell

Meghan graduated from Newcastle University in 2005. After a further 2 years postgraduate training in both general practice and hospital dentistry she gained her Membership to the Faculty of Dental Surgeons qualification, MFDS. She as worked at Hexham Dental Clinic since 2010, providing both NHS and Private treatment.

Being committed to continually develop her professional skills to offer the highest quality treatment. Having attend many courses
advancing her knowledge in General Dentistry, Cosmetic Techniques, Invisalign, Dentures, Root Fillings and Facial Aesthetics.

Meghan is a friendly compassionate dentist, who strives to help people overcome their anxiety of dentistry, whether it is for simple treatment or cosmetically improving the appearance of their smile and teeth.

When not working, Meghan is enjoys spending time with her two boys and Labrador and trying to keep fit!

Originally from Cumbria, Rob came to the North East to study Dentistry in 1988. Following successful completion of his Dental degree, Rob went on to study Medicine, completing his 5-year MBBS qualification from Newcastle Medical School in 1999. During this time, Rob worked in General Dental Practice giving him valuable experience of dentistry outside of a hospital setting. Rob has a wealth of experience in medicine and surgery, working in general and vascular surgery, accident and emergency and orthopaedics, before finding his home in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Rob became a Consultant at Sunderland Royal Hospital in 2009. As consultant, Rob has been involved in delivering training and education. Rob lectures on the national General Implant Foundation Training course. He has published numerous scientific papers, contributed chapters to numerous medical books and chaired the Maxillofacial Reconstruction session at the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons 87th annual meeting in Boston Massachusetts. At Hexham Dental Clinic, Rob often becomes involved in complex implant treatments. Rob has extensive experience of providing All-On-4 “teeth in a day” and complex cosmetic cases at the font of the mouth. Rob is also able to provide full mouth reconstruction where there is insufficient bone for conventional implants, by using the latest technology with zygomatic implants. Outside of work Rob is a family man, is fanatical about photography and enjoys cycling, windsurfing, skiing, mountaineering and SCUBA diving.

Jay-Dee Hodgson

Jay-Dee joined our team in July 2016, graduating from Newcastle University in 2014 with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene & Therapy. She is a member of The British Society of Periodontology and The British Society of Dental Hygiene & Therapy, and is particularly interest in the dental health of children, believing that oral health education should be instilled from a young age as it is the key to minimising dental and many general health problems. Jay-Dee also provides tooth whitening too.

Outside of work Jay-Dee is kept busy with her little boy. When time allows, she loves to travel and is most likely to be found sailing the Med with her family.

Carol qualified from Guys London in 1987. (CEB Cert Dental Hygiene) With over 25 years experience in both NHS and private practice carol is able to provide the highest standards of care. She is skilled in the treatment of all forms of gum disease and prides herself on having a very personal touch with care.

We were proud to have Carol join Hexham Dental Clinic in 2010. Many patients have commented on how kind and gentle Carol is as well as being happy with her high clinic standards. Carol feels to lucky to really enjoy her job but outside of work is a proud mother of two. She enjoys live music, theatre, walking, reading & eating out.

Alex Brown

Alex qualified as a Dental Hygienist at Newcastle University in 1995 and has worked at Hexham Dental Clinic for 10 years . She previously worked in general dental practices across the North East & North West of England. She excels at treating patients with complex periodontal conditions and loves getting to know her patients and their needs well. She is very sporty and loves walking her dog Bear. Outside of work she loves spending time with her family, visiting restaurants, horse riding and Pilates.

Sophie Davidson

Sophie joined Hexham Dental Clinic in 2010 as a Dental Nurse, and since then has engaged in an extended programme of further training and gained post-graduate qualifications in Radiology, Conscious Sedation & Pain Control in dentistry, Treatment Co-ordination and has recently just completed a Level 4 Diploma in Practice Management.

Her current role involves helping manage our busy practice as well as being a treatment co-ordinator. This helps ensure patients understand all of their many options relating to NHS, cosmetic, orthodontic and implant dentistry, and subsequently ensuring that treatment progresses as smoothly as possible.

In her spare time Sophie enjoys spending time with her partner and little boy, and also enjoys keeping fit.
